BMS volleyball wins Bayside Academy tournament

The Brewton Middle School volleyball team went 4-0 and won first place, for the second straight year, in the Bayside Academy Rumble volleyball tournament Saturday.
In their first game against Saint Paul’s, Brewton won 25-17 and 25-14.
Against Faith Academy, Brewton won 25-15 and 25-19. In their third game against UMS-Wright, Brewton won 25-6 and 25-5. In their fourth and final game of the day, Brewton took down Satsuma 25-10 and 25-3.
T.R. Miller’s JV team went 3-2 came in fourth place out of 10 teams in the tournament.
In their first game against Bayside Academy, T.R. Miller won 2-1 as they took game one 25-23, lost game two 25-22 and took the third set 15-12.
Against Blount, T.R. Miller won 2-1. The Lady Tigers won set one 25-15, lost set two 25-14, but won the third set 15-11.
Against Murphy in game three, T.R. Miller won 2-1. The Lady Tigers won set one 25-19, lost set two 25-21, but won the third set 15-9.
In game four, T.R. Miller lost to Gulf Shores 2-1. T.R. Miller won set one 25-22, but lose set to 25-19 and set three 15-7.
In the tournament semifinals, T.R. Miller lost 2-0. The Lady Tigers lost set one 25-9 and set two 25-12.
“We were very excited to win the Bayside tournament for the second straight year,” BMS head coach Kim Owens said. “Five of our 10 players returned from last year’s team and they showed great leadership all day. Our middle hitters, Mallori Floyd and Hannah Lisenby, did outstanding. Kennedy Harp and Anna Grace White led our serving. The starting setters, Gabbi Solomon and Kaleigh Folsom were great all day.
“Baleigh Douglas, Hannah McFerrin, Abigail cave and Mary Paige Madden did well in their relief roles. It’s great when everyone does their job and does it with a smile on their face.”
No individual stats were known as of press time.
The BMS team improved to 5-0 while the JV team went to 5-2.
