Thanks to a late surge, T.R. Miller’s B-Team scored a fourth quarter touchdown and executed the two-point conversion to overcome an early W.S. Neal lead and win the game 8-6 Monday night in East Brewton.
The win improved TRM to 3-1 this season while WSN fell to 0-1 after their first game of the season.
Despite being sacked four times by a swarming WSN defense, TRM quarterback Caleb Winton found Hayden Atkinson in the back of the end zone for what proved to be the game-winning points on the conversion. The difference in the game was set up by a drive that featured three big runs by Demarcus McMillan on a 69-yard drive and culminated with his three-yard touchdown plunge on the first play of the final quarter.
W.S. Neal had taken an early lead when Matt Hutchins found Jacobey Hawthorne on a slant pattern for a 13-yard TD in the second quarter. The conversion run failed, and proved to be the difference in the game. The Eagles had two drives stopped inside the Tiger 5-yard line.
The Tigers got 78 yards on seven carries from McMillan, while Michael Campbell added 71 yards on seven totes. Winton was 3-for-5 passing for 43 as he found Joshua Winton for 30 yards, Hunter Brittain for 10 and McMillan for 3.
TRM had 195 total yards, outdistancing WSN’s 100. Tiger safety JoJo Booker had an interception, while Eagle linebacker Andrew Langham picked off a pass. Brandon Burch and Taconious Stallworth tag-teamed for three of their team’s four sacks.
Tiger linebacker Russell Smith and defensive lineman Jake Whitworth had seven tackles apiece, while Atkinson added five, with two sacks.
