Playing at Excel Thursday, T.R. Miller’s JV and varsity volleyball teams earned wins over the Panthers to improve to 12-3 and 15-3 respectively.
The JV Lady Tigers defeated Excel 2-0 (25-10 and 25-11) while the varsity won 3-0 (25-20, 25-23, and 25-11).
Although his varsity team earned the win, T.R. Miller head coach Greg White said his team is still a little inconsistent in what they do.
“When we do it right we can be pretty good,” White said. “When we don’t we can be beaten by anyone. But we are scrappy and we play real hard and get after it. We’ve just got to keep working as a team and improve in some of our technique. This is a good bunch of kids that work hard and play hard. We just want to keep improving as the area tournament gets closer.”
In the JV wins, Myra Reiss had 10 straight service points to end set one while Mary Madison Brown had five service points and Anna Kate Brittain had six kills.
In set two, Gabbi Solomon finished with four service points while Brown had three. Brittain, Mallori Floyd, Reiss, Alexis King, and Bethany McDonald all had two service points each.
In the varsity matches, Grace Ruzic led with eight service points in set one while Brittany Warren had three. Amelia Peach had four service points, five kills and two blocks.
In set two, T.R. Miller was down 23-16 before Peach had nine straight service points and three aces. Peach also had five kills. Warren chipped in three service points and three kills.
In the set three win, Caitlyn Smith had 10 service points while Warren had three. Peach added three and five kills in the win.
