WSNMS basketball teams open season with losses at Jay

In their first game of the season Monday in Jay, both the W.S. Neal Middle School girls and boys basketball teams took losses to start the year 0-1.
The Lady Eagles lost 33-16 to Jay while the boys lost 50-40.
For the Lady Eagles, Jay led 5-2 after one quarter of play and 23-7 at the half after outscoring WSN 18-5 in the second quarter.
In the third quarter, WSNMS was outscored 8-4 to fall behind 31-11 heading into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth, the Lady Eagles ended the game on a 5-2 run to take the loss by 17 points.
Aaliyah Askew and Raven Woods led WSNMS with four points each in the loss. Tori Gillam had three points while Camille Smith and Dajaryan Elliott both had two points each. Tatum Reeves added one point in the loss.
For the WSNMS boys in the loss, Jay led 14-9 after one quarter and 23-22 at the half.
Down by one at the half, WSNMS was outscored 11-9 in the third quarter to trail 34-31 heading into the fourth quarter. In the fourth, Jay ended the game on a 16-9 run to get the win by 10 points.
Jordan Hails led WSNMS in the loss with 11 points while Rickey Samuel and Noah Hill had six points each.
Matthew Thomas and Dylan Ingram had five points each while Taylor Fountain had four and Mateo Smith had three points.
