St. Stephens to open new thrift shop

St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church is opening a thrift shop and is now taking donations and needs volunteers.
The shop is located on Douglas Avenue in the Brewton Heights Shopping Center, in the former ABC Store. The grand opening will be on Fri., Dec. 5.
According to Father Rob Dixon of St. Stephens, the mission of the store is to bless the Brewton and East Brewton communities in the name of Jesus Christ by providing quality items for a low price and a place for people to volunteer to help others regardless of one’s age and ability. Funds raised will be used for local outreach ministries that can make a sustainable difference in people’s lives, he said.
“I knew of a lot of other Episcopal Churches that do this very well,” Dixon said. “We looked into the way they do and we have the energy.
“It has just been one thing after another and it has just fallen into place,” he said. “ It is a great location as far as the way the store is laid out. The attitudes have been great. It has happened very quickly. Over the last two months, everything has just fallen into place. Our goal is to be a nice store.”
Currently the shop is receiving and needs donated items from Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
To volunteer, people are encouraged to stop by the store. The store will open on Mon., Dec. 1. The phone number to the store is 809-1378.
