WSN’s varsity boys basketball team gets first win at RL Thursday; girls fall to 1-1

The Red Level Tigers’ varsity boys couldn’t fend off a late comeback by the W.S. Neal Eagles, and lost 59-53.
The Tigers started off hot pouncing out to a 15-7 lead after the first period. After the end of the second period the Tigers were up 24-18.
By the end of the third the Tigers pulled out to an 8-point lead at 38-30, but the Eagles got hot in the fourth, scoring 29 points for a 59-53 victory over the Tigers.
Hunter Carpenter was the Tigers’ top scorer with 20 points, and Jeffery Purdue finished with 11 points for the Tigers.
“We played hard, and led for three and half quarters,” Tigers’ head coach Allen Catrett said. “We got into to much foul trouble, and we have to learn play smarter when finishing games.”
In varsity girl’s action the Red Level Lady Tigers destroyed the W.S. Neal Lady Eagles 53-20 last night.
The Lady Tigers started off with an 11-5 lead after one period, and never looked back.
At half time the Lady Tigers pulled up by 10 with a 22-12 score. By the end of the third the Lady Tigers increased that lead to 36-20. A strong finish by the Lady Tigers gave them a 53-20 win over the Lady Eagles.
The Lady Tigers’ Kayla Hinson led all scorers with 20 points, and Shelby Holley added 16 points, of her own, for the Lady Tigers Tigers.
“I was very proud of the girls tonight. They did a great job executing, and played great defense,” Tigers’ head coach Allen Catrett said. “We have continuously gotten better each practice and game. Anytime we can play with that intensity we will have an opportunity to win more ball games.”
No other game information or stats were known from the games. No B-team information was known as of press time.
WSN’s girls fell to 1-1 with the loss while the win for the boys was WSN’s first win and moved the Eagles to 1-1 this season.
