City starts project; Broughton honored
The Brewton city council took the first step Monday in starting its next infrastructure project by approving two bids for services in a $450,000 Community Development Block grant.
The funds will be used for water and sewer improvement project in the city’s “mid-town” area.
A $46,500 bid for administrative services was awarded to Development Group Inc. of Prattville, as was a $63,000 bid for engineering services to DMD Engineers of Andalusia.
In other business, the council:
• announced Dan McMillan with the McMillan Trust donated 16 acres near O’Bannon Park to the city for recreational use;
• reinstated its YMCA basketball scholarships;
• approved a Martin Luther King Jr. parade for Jan. 17, at 11 a.m. The parade will begin at the utility department’s maintenance garage and continue to the Fisher Center.
