Clarke County sweeps WSN basketball Tuesday in Grove Hill

Playing in Grove Hill Tuesday night, all three W.S. Neal basketball teams took losses from Clarke County.
The B-team Eagles lost 40-22 to fall to 2-2 this season while the Lady Eagles lost 53-30 to drop to 2-4 overall. In varsity action, the Eagles of East Brewton suffered a 67-43 loss to see their record fall to 3-3 this season.

Clarke County 40, WSN B-team 22
A rough first half for the WSN B-team spelled an 18-point loss to Clarke County Tuesday night.
The Eagles were outscored 28-9 in the first half as they trailed 18-6 after one quarter and were outscored 11-2 in the second.
In the third quarter, both teams scored five points each as WSN trailed 34-13 heading into the fourth. In the fourth, WSN held a 9-6 advantage, but took the loss by a score of 40-22.
Matthew Brown led WSN with eight points while Marvin Maddox added five points.
Tyrese Anderson chipped in four points. Jeremiya Mitchell had three points while Keaton Yuhasz and De’Ron Smith both had one point each.

Clarke County 53, WSN Lady Eagles 30
Clarke County scored 26 points in the second quarter against WSN’s Lady Eagles Tuesday to propel them to a 53-30 win over WSN.
Clarke County led WSN 8-6 after one quarter before exploding in the second quarter with the 20-point advantage to grab a 34-12 lead at the half.
In the third quarter, WSN was outscored 15-9 to trail 48-21 heading into the final quarter of play. In the fourth, WSN ended the game on a 9-4 run, but took the loss by 23 points.
“We played hard and we are improving every day,” WSN Lady Eagle head coach Buddy Powell said. “We lost to a very good team tonight.”
Alyssa English had four points and five rebounds for WSN while Taylor Burns had two points and two rebounds. Marisha Frazier chipped in six points and seven rebounds while KeKe Floyd had five points and led with eight rebounds.
Janiya McCants finished with two points and two rebounds while Jashira Dees led with nine points. Dees also had two rebounds in the loss. Kayla Johnson finished with two points and had one rebound.

Clarke County 67, WSN varsity boys 43
Despite having three players in double figures, the WSN varsity Eagles suffered a 67-43 setback Tuesday night in Grove Hill.
Tyshawn Davis, DJ Hodges and Treylon Watson all scored in double figures for the Eagles in the loss. Davis led with 13 points while Hodges and Watson both had 10 points each.
Also scoring for the Eagles in the loss was Troy Lewis with nine points while Dalton Shell had one.
Davis also led the team with nine rebounds, four assists and three blocks. Watson led with four steals.
Hodges and Watson both had four rebounds each while Lewis and Hawthorne had two each.
Watson and Shell finished with two assists each. Davis had three steals while Hodges, Lewis, Shell and Hawthorne had one each.
Clarke County led WSN 20-11 after one quarter and 37-19 at the half following a 17-8 scoring advantage in the second quarter.
In the third quarter, CCHS increased their lead to 58-32 after outscoring the Eagles 21-13 in the quarter. In the fourth, WSN held an 11-9 advantage.
WSN was 8-for-18 from the free throw line.
