TRM basketball teams win final games in RL tourney against Opp

In their final games of the Red Level Christmas Tournament Monday in Red Level, both the T.R. Miller varsity girls and boys teams picked up wins over the Opp Bobcats.
The Lady Tigers won 54-13 to get their first win in the tournament and take seventh place. The Lady Tigers went 1-2 in tournament play to move to 8-7 overall this season.
TRM lost to Georgiana on Friday in the tournament by two points and to Andalusia on Saturday by four points.
In the varsity boy’s game, TRM took down Opp 62-49 to take fifth place. The Tigers went 2-1 in tournament play to move to 7-5 overall this season. The Tigers lost to Georgiana on Friday, but defeated Brantley on Saturday.
The two teams will face off against Opp in an area game Tues., Jan. 6, in Opp.
TRM Lady Tigers 54, Opp 13
TRM’s Lady Tigers cruised to their first win of the tournament Monday as they used a strong second quarter to destroy Opp 54-13.
The Lady Tigers had nine players score in the win with two scoring in double figures. Mekiah Williams led with 13 points while Steely Ruzic joined in with 12 points.
Shae Nicholson had nine points while Kyla Bell and Emonea Curry both had five points each. Jaden Miller had four points, Tiana Smith had two along with Shayn Bradley and Morgan Longmire.
TRM led Opp 14-6 after one quarter, but took control of the game in the second quarter with a 27-1 scoring advantage to claim a 41-7 lead at the half.
In the third quarter, TRM outscored Opp 6-2 to take a 47-9 lead into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth, the Lady Tigers ended the game on a 7-4 run to get the win by 41 points.
TRM varsity 62, Opp 49
Playing in the fifth/sixth place game Monday, TRM defeated the Opp Bobcats 62-49 to claim fifth place in the Red Level Christmas Tournament.
TRM led Opp 17-13 after one quarter and 33-29 at the half following a 16-16 tie in the second quarter.
In the third quarter, TRM pulled away from the Bobcats with a 17-11 advantage to take a 50-40 lead into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth, TRM outscored the Bobcats 12-9 to get the win by 13 points.
TRM’s Trae Walker and Chardian Johnson led in the win. Walker led the Tigers with 19 points while Johnson finished with 17.
Kellyn Winn, Brooks Brown and Ahmaud Taylor both finished with eight points each in the win while Trin Miller chipped in two points.
