WSN basketball teams get wins in recent games

W.S. Neal’s basketball teams are off to a hot start in the new year of 2015.
With two straight home games to open the second half of the season Monday and Tuesday, the Eagle teams have played an overall total of six games and are 5-1 in those games.
In their home game against Red Level Monday, all three teams came away with wins.
In their home game against Excel Tuesday, the Lady Eagles and varsity Eagles claimed wins while the B-team lost.
Against Red Level, the B-team won 42-21 before falling to Excel by a score of 45-29. The split in games moved WSN to 3-6 overall this season.
For the Lady Eagles, WSN defeated Red Level 47-41 and Excel by a score of 49-29 to move to 4-10 overall this season.
In varsity boy’s action, WSN took down Red Level 60-44 and claimed 60-51 overtime win over Excel Tuesday to move to 7-7 this season.

WSN B-team 42, Red Level 21
WSN opened the game on a 17-0 run in the first quarter to cruise to a 21-point win over Red Level Monday at home by a score of 42-21.
After leading 17-0 after the first quarter of play, WSN was outscored by Red Level 7-2 in the second quarter to claim a 19-7 lead at the half.
WSN took control of the game again in the third quarter as they outscored the Tigers 13-2 to build a 32-9 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Despite Red Level outscoring the Eagles of East Brewton 12-10 in the final quarter, WSN soared to the 21-point win.
Eight Eagles scored in the win with Ricky Samuel leading the way with 12 points. Marvin Maddox added eight points and Tyrese Anderson finished with seven. Brandon Conway chipped in five points while De’Ron Smith and Keaton Yuhasz both had three points each.
Bryce Booker and Tra English both added two points each for WSN in the win.

WSN Lady Eagles 47, Red Level 41
The WSN Lady Eagles ended their nine-game losing streak Monday with a 47-41 win over Red Level.
Marisha Frazier and KeKe Floyd both scored in double digits in the win with Floyd having a double-double in the victory.
Frazier led with 16 points and nine rebounds while Floyd finished with 15 points and led with 10 rebounds. Both finished with four steals each.
MeMe Lawson added seven points and one steal while Alexis Morris had four points, Anija Stewart had three points and Alyssa English had two. English added one rebound in the win.
“We played very well,” WSN head coach Buddy Powell said. “It was a great team effort.”
Red Level led WSN 14-11 after one quarter and 27-24 at the half after both teams scored 13 points each in the second quarter.
In the third quarter, WSN took control of the game with an 11-3 run to grab a 35-30 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth, WSN edged out Red Level 12-11 to seal the win.

WSN varsity Eagles 60, Red Level 44
Four Eagles scored in double figures to lead WSN to a 60-44 win Monday.
Troy Lewis, DJ Hodges, TyShawn Davis and Malcolm Hawthorne all scored in double figures with Lewis leading the way with 14 points and seven rebounds.
Hodges finished with 13 points, six rebounds and one steal while Davis added 13 points, two rebounds, six assists and had three steals.
Hawthorne finished with 12 points, one rebound and two steals. Andre Womack added six points for WSN and Treylon Watson had two. Womack also had four rebounds and one steal while Watson had two rebounds and two steals.
Brad Martin finished with two rebounds and one steal for WSN while JT Gantt and Jacobey Hawthorne both had one rebound each.
WSN led Red Level 17-13 after one quarter of play and 33-25 at the half after a 16-12 run in the second quarter.
In the third quarter, WSN edged Red Level 13-12 to take a 46-37 lead into the fourth quarter. In the fourth, WSN doubled up Red Level 14-7 to get the win by 16 points.

Excel 45, WSN B-team 29
WSN’s B-team suffered a 45-29 home loss to Excel Tuesday night.
The Panthers led WSN 12-10 after one quarter and 21-12 at the half after outscoring the Eagles 9-2 in the second quarter.
In the third quarter, WSN cut into Excel’s lead by two points after outscoring the Panthers 13-11 in the quarter to cut the lead to 32-25 heading into the fourth.
In the fourth, Excel put the game away with a 13-4 run to get the win by 16 points.
Ricky Samuel led WSN with 12 points while De’Ron Smith had six.
Marvin Maddox and Josh McMillan both had four points each in the loss. Brandon Conway added three points in the loss.

WSN Lady Eagles 49, Excel 29
WSN’s Lady Eagles picked up their second straight win as they down Excel by 20 points, 49-29.
“We played great,” Powell said. “It was an outstanding team effort. Our ninth and 10th graders continue to improve every game with more game experience.”
WSN jumped out to a 13-6 lead over Excel after one quarter and led 22-10 at the half following a 9-4 advantage in the second quarter.
In the third, both teams scored 10 points each as WSN took a 32-20 lead into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth, WSN ended the game on a 17-9 run to aid them in the 20-point win.
Floyd led with 12 points, three rebounds, four steals and five blocks while Frazier added nine points. Frazier also had 10 rebounds and five steals in the win.
Lawson finished with 10 points while Jashira Dees chipped in six points, three rebounds and one steal.
Haylee Watson had five points and one rebound while Kayla Johnson and Alyssa English both had two points each. Johnson added one rebound while English had four in the win.

WSN varsity Eagles 60, Excel 51
After blowing their lead in the fourth quarter and seeing Excel tie the game up a 51-all to force overtime, WSN outscored the Panthers 9-0 in the extra period to claim a 60-51 win.
Excel led WSN 13-9 after one quarter, but WSN outscored the Panthers 15-10 in the second to take a 24-23 lead into the locker rooms at the halftime break.
In the third quarter, WSN held a 13-11 scoring advantage to increase their lead to 37-34 heading into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth, Excel outscored WSN 17-14 to tie the game up and force overtime. In overtime, WSN held Excel scoreless while pouring in nine points to get the nine-point win.
Ten Eagles scored in the win with Lewis leading the way again with 16 points. Lewis added six rebounds and one steal in the win while Davis had 13 points, six rebounds, two assists and five steals.
Jacobey Hawthorne finished with nine points, two rebounds and one steal and Hodges added eight points and five rebounds.
Malcom Hawthorne had four points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals in the win for WSN while Treylon Watson finished with three points, one rebound, seven assists and four steals.
Dalton Shell, JT Gantt, and Darius Tolbert all had two points each while Andre Womack had one.
Shell finished with two rebounds, one steal and one assists while Gantt had four rebounds and one steal. Tolbert finished with eight rebounds and one assist while Gantt had one rebound and one steal in the win for the Eagles.
