From staff reports

For the first time since the 2009-2010 season, the W.S. Neal varsity boy’s basketball team has reached eight wins in a season. The Eagles of East Brewton accomplished that feat Tuesday night at home as they down area opponent UMS-Wright 65-52. The win improved the Eagles to 8-8 overall this season and to 1-0 in area play.
The eight wins in their 16 games this season ties WSN’s win total for the last two years combined. Last season, WSN went 5-19 overall and went 3-13 during the 2012-2013 season. Prior to this season, WSN has only 15 combined wins in the last four seasons. The Eagles have went 15-78 from the 2010-11 season until last season. Also during that time, WSN has had three different coaches (Derek Roberts, Kasson Whitten, and Anthony Hayes) during the four-year span.
In the game Tuesday, WSN got 21 points from Tyshawn Davis and another 12 from Troy Lewis to aid them in the win.
WSN built a 15-6 lead in the first quarter and held a 35-22 lead at the half following a 20-16 scoring advantage in the second quarter.
In the third quarter, WSN increased their lead by five points as they edged out the Bulldogs 14-9 in the quarter to build a 49-31 lead heading into the fourth.
In the fourth, UMS-Wright rallied late with a 21-16 run, but the Eagles held on for the win by 13 points.
Along with Davis and Lewis, DJ Hodges and Treylon Watson both finished with eight points each while Andre Womack had six. Dalton Shell chipped in five points while Malcolm Hawthorne had three and Darius Tolbert had two points.
Hodges led with 10 rebounds in the win while Watson led with seven assists. Davis led with five steals for WSN.
