Final two innings doom WSN’s baseball team in season opener Monday against Andy

Leading Andalusia 3-0 after five innings of play Monday in their 2015 season opener, the W.S. Neal Eagle baseball team was outscored 8-2 in the final two innings of play to suffer an 8-5 loss. The loss starts WSN with a 0-1 record.
The two teams played to a scoreless tie the first three innings of the game before WSN plated two in the bottom of the fourth to grab a 2-0 lead.
WSN added one more in the bottom of the fifth to take a 3-0 lead. In the top of the sixth, Andalusia used a five-run inning to take a 5-3 lead. WSN added two in the bottom of the inning to tie the game at 5-all heading into the seventh inning.
In the seventh, WSN fell to three more Bulldog runs and was held scoreless in the bottom half of the inning to take the loss by three.
Jared Cooper went the first five innings on the mound for WSN while Lane Chavers went the final two and took the loss. Cooper allowed two hits, no runs, walked one and struck out eight.
Chavers allowed seven hits, eight runs, four earned, walked none and struck out two.
WSN was held to only four hits in the loss and made four errors.
At the plate for WSN, Jacobey Hawthorne went 1-for-3 while Miles Powell was 1-for-4 with a double and one RBI. Dalton Shell went 2-for-2 for WSN in the loss.
WSN will be back in action Thursday at home against St. Paul’s.
