WSN baseball throttles ECHS for first win of season, county tourney

The W.S. Neal Eagle baseball team captured their first win of the season and of the Escambia County Tournament in a big way Thursday in Atmore as they cruised to a 20-2 win over the host team ECHS Blue Devils. With the win WSN moved to 1-3 overall this season.
WSN cruised to six runs in the first inning and led ECHS 11-0 after the top of the first. ECHS’ two runs of the game came in the bottom half of the inning to cut the lead to 11-2 heading into the third inning.
In the third, WSN plated four runs and added five more in the fourth to lead 20-2. Neither team scored in the fifth inning as WSN claimed the 10-run mercy rule win by 18.
Lane Chavers, Matt Hutchins and Jacobey Hawthorne all pitched in the win with Chavers being the pitcher of record.
Chavers went two innings and allowed two hits, two runs and struck out five.
Hutchins went two innings and allowed one hit, no runs, struck out four and hit one batter.
Hawthorne went the final inning and struck out two while hitting one batter.
At the plate for the Eagles of East Brewton, Malcolm Hawthorne was 1-for-1 while Troy Lewis was 2-for-2 with three RBIs. Dalton Shell was 1-for-2 with one RBI along with Brad Robinson.
Miles Powell was 1-for-1 while Jacobey Hawthorne was 1-for-2 with one RBI. Dakota Graves went 1-for-4 with two RBIs while Derrick Barton led in the win with a 2-for-2 day, four RBIs and two doubles.
Sam Fraizer was 1-for-2 with one RBI while Alex O’Keane finished with one RBI as well.
