TRM goes 4-1 in own tourney, falls to Flomaton in semifinals

The T.R. Miller Lady Tigers’ softball team advanced to the semifinals of their own TRM Invitational Saturday before falling to Flomaton.
The Lady Tigers went 4-1 in tournament play to move to 6-1 overall this season. All four of TRM’s wins were by one run.
In game one Friday, TRM defeated McGill-Toolen 3-2 before taking a 1-0 win over Davidson in game two.
On Saturday, TRM opened with an 8-7 win over Flomaton before edging out WSN 2-1 in the first game of the single elimination part of the tournament.
In the semifinals, TRM met up with Flomaton for the second time Saturday and for the third time in five days and suffered a 7-5 loss to be eliminated.

Game one Friday: TRM 3, McGill-Toolen 2
With the game tied 2-all in the bottom of the fifth inning, TRM plated one run in their half of the inning to come away with a 3-2 win over the Yellow Jackets for their first win of the tournament Friday night.
TRM led McGill 2-0 after one inning before seeing the Yellow Jackets score one in the second and one in the fifth inning.
Taylor Austin pitched in the win as she went five innings and allowed three hits, two runs, one earned, walked one and struck out six.
At the plate, Madison Douglas had two hits while Steely Ruzic, Austin, Morgan Longmire and Grace Ruzic. Mallori Floyd and Myra Reiss had one RBI each.

Game two Friday: TRM 1, Davidson 0
In a pitcher’s duel, TRM edged out Davidson 1-0 to move to 2-0 in the tournament. The lone run of the game came in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Douglas, Reiss and Krystal Bell were all 1-for-2 at the plate for TRM. Austin had the winning RBI.
Austin earned the pitching win as she went five innings and allowed three hits, no runs, no walks, struck out none and hit one batter.

Game three Saturday: TRM 8, Flomaton 7
TRM blew a 7-4 lead in the fourth inning, but pinch runner Gabbi Solomon scored the winning run on a passed ball in the bottom of the fourth to give TRM an 8-7 win over Flomaton.
TRM led Flomaton 3-1 after one inning but trailed 4-3 after the top of the third inning. TRM then scored four of their own in the bottom of the third inning to take a 7-4 lead before winning it in the bottom of the fourth.
Austin earned the pitching win as she went four innings and allowed five hits, seven runs, four earned, walked three, struck out three and hit two batters.
At the plate, Douglas, Floyd, Austin, Grace Ruzic and Mary Madison Brown all had hits.
Floyd had one RBI along with Austin and Ruzic.
Steely Ruzic went 2-for-3 with a double and a triple while Myra Reiss was 2-for-3 with a double and a triple and two RBIs. Bell was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.

Game four Saturday: TRM 2, WSN 1
Facing off against W.S. Neal in the single elimination part of the tournament Saturday afternoon, TRM scored two unanswered runs on WSN to eliminate the Lady Eagles with a 2-1 win.
WSN led TRM 1-0 after the top of the first inning, but saw TRM score one run each in the first and second innings to claim the win by on.
Tori Watt, Dubose, Karissa Johnson and Barnett all had one hit each in the loss. Wyatt and Dubose both had a double each while Johnson had the lone RBI.
Dubose pitched in the loss as she went four innings and allowed four hits, two runs, one earned, walked none and struck out three.
WSN had a runner doubled off second base in the top of the fourth inning to kill a late rally.
For TRM, Douglas was 1-for-2 and Steely Ruzic was 2-for-2 with a double. Reiss had one RBI while Austin was 1-for-2.
Austin pitched in the win as she went all five innings and allowed four hits, one earned run, walked none and struck out three.

Game five Saturday: Flomaton 7, TRM 5
Having already defeated Flomaton earlier in the day and twice already on the year, the Lady Hurricanes stunned TRM Saturday with a 7-5 win in the semifinals of the tournament to eliminate the Lady Tigers.
TRM led Flomaton 3-1 after one inning and 4-1 after two innings. From there, Flomaton scored three runs each in the third and fourth innings to take a 7-4 lead. TRM added one run in the fifth inning, but took the loss by two.
Reiss and Austin pitched in the loss with Austin being the pitcher of record. The duo combined to go five innings and allowed 11 hits, seven runs, four earned, walked none and struck out one.
At the plate, Steely Ruzic was 1-for-3 with one RI while Floyd was 2-for-3 with one RBI and a triple. Reiss went 2-for-2 with one RBI while Grace Ruzic and Brown added one hit each. Leslie Holmes had one RBI in the loss.
