WSN softball ends season with 8-15-1 record

Playing in the loser’s bracket of the class 4A area 1 softball tournament Thursday against Satsuma on the campus of UMS-Wright in Mobile, the W.S. Neal softball team saw their season end with a 13-7 loss.
Needing a win in the tourney to advance to the championship game and the South Regionals next week in Gulf Shores, the Lady Eagles blew a 6-1 lead to suffer the six-run loss.
Both teams were tied 1-1 after the first inning before WSN used a five-run second inning to take a 6-1 lead. From there, Satsuma scored 12 runs over the next four innings to end WSN’s season. Satsuma scored one run in the second inning, six in the third inning, four in the fourth and one more in the fifth to take a 13-6 lead. WSN’s final run came in the top of the seventh inning. WSN made nine errors in the loss.
In the pitching circle, Haleigh Dubose took the loss as she went all six innings and allowed 12 hits, 13 runs, two earned, walked one, struck out two and hit one batter.
At the plate, Dubose led WSN as she went 2-for-4 with five RBIs. Dubose had a double and a grand slam in the defeat.
Also at the plate for WSN, Kaeli Brown had two hits along with Karissa Johnson and Erin Hartsel. Brianna Pugh added one hit. Along with Dubose’s five RBIs, Johnson and Hartsel had one each for the Lady Eagles.
The loss ended WSN’s season with an 8-15-1 record.
