Brewton knocked off the Covington County 12U All-Stars 2-1 Wednesday in Opp.
Jake Wilson led off the game with a rip to shortstop, but the Brewton shortstop made a nice play and threw Wilson out at first. Aden Amis followed with a single, but two quick outs ended the top of the first inning.
Tucker Livings started on the mound for the County All-Stars and got the first player he faced to strike out, but a hit-by-pitch, a single and an error loaded the bases for Brewton with one out.
Earl Dolihite came up and lined a pitch to third baseman Gabrien Dunn, who tagged third for the second out. However, Kyle Blevins was able to score from third to give Brewton a 1-0 lead. Livings picked up his second strike out of the inning on the next batter to end the Brewton threat.
In the top of the second, Mason Turner ripped a two-out double over the head of the Brewton left fielder, but the County was unable to get the run across.
Livings remained strong on the mound, picking up two more strikeouts in the inning and only allowing one hit.
Amis picked up his second hit of the game in the top of the third inning, but Brewton starting pitcher Blevins held the County All-Stars off the scoreboard for the third straight inning.
In the top of the fourth, the County struck back and tied the game when Livings crushed the first pitch he saw over the right center field fence for a home run.
Livings picked up his sixth strikeout of the game in the top of the fourth inning, and retired the Brewton batters in order.
Wilson picked up his first hit of the game with one out in the top of the fifth inning, but Blevins got a hard line-out from Amis for the second out and got Dunn to ground into a fielder’s choice to end the top half of the inning.
In the top of the fifth, Blevins lead off with a single followed by a single from Miller Hart to put runners on first and third. Wyn Brittain then drove a pitch to center that was deep enough for Blevins to tag up from third for the go-ahead run.
The County got a one-out hit from Jake Jeter in the top of the sixth, but Blevins got a strikeout and a fly out to center field to end the game.
“It was a tough lose,” Covington County coach Jeff Jeter said. “Tucker Livings pitched a great game for us tonight. We just got the short end of the stick in a good ball game.”
