Former T.R. Miller Tiger Chris Jones is fulfilling a dream.
That is how the recent TRM graduate described the feeling of having working for a chance to walk on and play football at the University of West Alabama football team in Livingston.
“I am grateful that I am able to fulfill the dream I’ve had since I was in elementary school,” Jones said. “UWA is competitive, close to home and seemed to be a good fit for me. Also, one of my best friends is also there.”
That friend Jones talked about is another former Tiger of TRM as Terry Samuel will also be at UWA. Samuel signed with UWA on National Signing Day in February.
“It is extremely great to be able to play on the same team with Terry and against former TRM players like Keion (Smith), Kam (Coleman), and Mac (Coleman),” Jones said.
Jones, who will be playing defensive end and defensive tackle, said he hopes to earn his teaching degree and wants to one day be able to coach others.
“I also hope to be an impact player for the team in the future,” he said. “I hope that after this season I should be able to earn a scholarship.
“I am looking forward to playing hard, making an impact and finding a spot on the scholarship roster.”
Jones said he turned down offers from Capital in Ohio, Mount St. Joseph in Ohio and most recently, Kentucky Christ University.
“I though it would be better to try to stay closer to home and be able to play with a former team mate and make my former Coach Riggs proud,” Jones said.
Jones is the son of Tracy Jones.
