Tuesday evening the TRM Lady Tigers earned their first area victory defeating Opp.
The JV team won in straight sets, 25-19 and 25-14. The match win improves the team to 4-0.
TRM varsity would take the first two games against Opp, 25-10, 25-15. Faced with losing the match in the third set, Opp rebounded with a 21-25 win. TRM head volleyball coach Terri Lynne Peacock believes the third set was a good learning curve for her team. “We allowed Opp to gain the momentum and control in game three,” Peacock said. “Our girls are competitive. They do not like to lose. They took control of game four and did what needed to be done to get the win.”
TRM would win big in the fourth set, 25-6 for match win.
Peacock knows how important area games are and liked the way her team competed. “Beating Opp was big for us,” Peacock said. “It was our first area game. I was proud the way we came out and took the first two games. Our setters Steely Ruzic and Caitlyn Smith did a great job setting our hitters.”
Leading TRM was Taylor Austin with 11 kills and Amelia Peach with 9 kills.
TRM (4-0) will be back in action Thurs., Sept. 10 against Flomaton (2-1). Games start at 4 p.m. at the Brewton Middle School gymnasium.
