T.R. Miller will play Escambia County this Friday in a non-region game.
The Tigers are coming off a win against Hillcrest that improved its record to 4-1, while Escambia County is coming off a loss to Jackson that dropped its record to 0-5.
Despite Escambia County’s record this season, Miller head coach Jamie Riggs knows that Atmore is coming ready to play.
“Atmore has played some really good teams so far,” Riggs said. “We’re by far the smallest team they will play to this point and this is a big game for them.
“We know they we’ll bring their best,” he said. “Our challenge is to ignore the fact they haven’t won games. We have to understand what type of team they are and what they are capable of.”
Riggs believes the battle between the Miller offensive line and Atmore defensive line will set the tone for the game.
“I’m very impressed with their defensive linemen,” he said. “We have seen a lot of good linemen this year and this Atmore group can match up with any that we have seen so far.”
Riggs said he also wants to see his team improve with containing the quarterback.
“Their quarterback can cause problems,” Riggs said. “We have to find the answer defensively and do a better job then we did last Friday.”
Last year the Tiger’s defeated the Blue Devils 58-20. The overall match up which dates back 81 years is led by the Tigers 41-36. Four games have ended in a tie. “We’ve had some tremendous games throughout the years,” Riggs said. “We’ve had some really close ones. Some of our players understand that history and with that understanding will know how hard Atmore is going to play us.”
Miller will face Escambia County Friday at home. Kick off is at 7 p.m.
