Tuesday evening Miller faced Flomaton for the second time this season, winning again in both the JV match and varsity match.
The JV volleyball team won in straight sets, 25-12 and 25-15.
Miller varsity started off slow, losing the first two games. TRM head volleyball coach Terri Lynne Peacock says her team struggles early was a make or break moment in the match. “Our team struggled through games one and two and we lost both,” Peacock said. “Our girls had to really dig deep tonight and overcome adversity by winning the next three games to win the match. It would have been easy for our girls to lay down and take the loss, instead we rose up to the challenge.”
Indeed the Lady Tiger rose up to the next challenge. Like night and day Miller would take the third set in dominating fashion, 25-9. The fourth set would prove closer with Miller pulling out the win, 25-23. In the final playoff Miller would win 15-8 to take the match.
Peacock was happy the way her team responded to earn the win despite its troubles early. “We were finally able to get the kills and blocks we had been lacking in the first two games,” she said. I am proud of our reaction to a good Flomaton team. A lot of the time its how you respond after you’ve been down that will determine the end result. In the end we found a way to win.”
Leading the Lady Tigers in kills and aces was Steely Ruzic. Allie Nelson led the team in blocks.
With the wins, JV improves to 12-0 for the season and varsity improves to 9-0.
Miller will be in action this Thurs., Sept. 24 against Escambia County. The games will be played at the Brewton Middle School. The middle school team will play at 4:30 p.m. followed by JV at 5:30 p.m. Varsity will play at 6:30 p.m.
