Ongoing paving projects in Brewton will continue for several more months, city officials said.
Crews have been working to resurface a number of areas throughout town, with the first round nearing completion.
“Everyone will have noticed that there are a lot of street paving projects going on,” Mayor Yank Lovelace said. “And there are going to be more in the future.”
Craig Jenkins, city street foreman, said the first round of paving – which included Douglas Lane, Sowell Road to the county line, Tiger Drive and east side of Lovelace Lane – is completed; however, work is ongoing on Belleville Avenue and Old Castleberry Road.
“Those two areas should be done in the next two weeks,” he said.
The second round will start at the end of November or first of December, Jenkins said.
Streets included are: Alco Drive; College Drive; Underwood Street and Ala. Hwy. 31 Areas include Belleville Avenue; Liles Boulevard, Hwy. 31 to Sowell Road; Smith Lane; Martin Luther King Drive, Sowell Road to Jones Road.
“In talking with personnel, we hope that round will be done by the end of the year,” Jenkins said. “But, as you know, weather has a lot to do with that. We hope that it holds for us.”
Lovelace said crews will also restart work on Edgewood Drive and the surrounding two streets. Work was halted to allow the finish of the D.W. Memorial Hospital renovation project. Wiregrass Construction of Andalusia will perform the work, while DMD Engineers will oversee the project.
