Worried about those rising heating bills?

If so, help could be on the way for some Escambia County residents through the American Red Cross Project Share program.

Joseph Hillard, spokesman for the South Alabama Chapter, said funding applications for Escambia County residents will begin on Tues., Jan. 12.

To qualify for assistance, the family income must be within certain guidelines depending on the size of the household.  In addition, the head of the household must meet one of the following eligibility criteria:

• be 62 or older; and/or,

• receiving a disability check.

As the organization responsible for administering Project SHARE funds, a Red Cross representative will interview applicants seeking financial assistance in paying their energy bill.  For those who qualify, payments will be made directly to the energy supplier.

Assistance interviews will begin on Tues., Jan. 19.

For those in Wallace, Brewton, North Brewton and Riverview, call 251.236.2655. Interviews will be conducted as scheduled at the McMillan Trust office at 1014 Douglas Avenue on Tuesdays and Thursdays until all funds are disbursed.
