Voters will head to the polls in May to vote on continuing a 4-mil education tax in Brewton.
The tax is renewable every 30 years, Mayor Yank Lovelace said, and is earmarked for educational purposes only.
Brewton City School Board Attorney Broox Garrett, who attended the Monday council meeting, said this is the tax’s 90th year in existence. If passed, it would begin Oct. 1, 2019, and continue through Oct. 1, 2046.
Earlier this month, the Brewton City School Board requested the city ask residents to renew the tax. The election will be held on Tues., May 9.
