A woman is charged with attempted murder and resisting arrest after she allegedly tried to kill a West Gate Village resident.

Sherry Diane Breceda was taken into custody on Tues., March 7, by the Brewton Police Department.

Sgt. Patrick Caylor said Wednesday West Gate staff contacted the BPD after noticing Breceda’s “suspicious activity” with one of the facility’s residents. While no official confirmation of the pair’s relationship was released, others reported the victim is Breceda’s mother-in-law.

Caylor said when officers attempted to take Breceda into custody, she actively resisted arrested.

“We have to thank the West Gate Village staff for their observation and response to this activity,” Caylor said. “Without it and their cooperation in the investigation this type of activity could still be going on. We, the Brewton Police Department and the staff of West Gate Village take pride in protecting the residents and will not allow this type of activity or abuse.”

Breceda was booked into the Escambia County Detention Center where she is currently being held on a $75,000 bond.

Alabama Department of Public Health assisted in the investigation.
