Tigers stay hot with sweeping week

The No. 1-ranked Class 3A T.R. Miller Tigers kept up its hot streak of playing last week completing a six game stretch with a double header in Wetumpka. The Tigers defeated W.S. Neal 13-1 on Tuesday, before sweeping Excel on the road 10-0 and in a double header at home 13-6 and 7-0. On Saturday Miller defeated St. Luke, 16-2; and Wetumpka, 6-2. Currently the Tigers sit at 19-0.

Excel 0, TRM 10

JoJo Booker pulverized two home runs at the plate as well as struck out 12 batters on the mound in the Tigers win. Booker surrendered only one hit. Hunter Brittain connected for a home run in the fourth inning, going back-to-back with Booker. Drew Williamson and Jason Konsler had two hits. Russell Smith had a double and 2 RBIs.

TRM 13, Excel 6

The Tigers found themselves trailing 5-2 entering the bottom of the fourth. That lead quickly disappeared with a grand slam by Jo Jo Booker to give TRM the 6-5 lead. A few pitches later Hunter Brittain followed up with a solo home run to extend the lead 7-5. Miller scored six more runs in the fifth inning to put the game out of reach. Booker also had a 2 RBI double in the game, bringing his total to 6 RBIs. O’Neil White was 3-for-3. Joshua Winton pitched the complete game in the win, allowing six runs, on six hits, two walks and three hit batters. He had four strikeouts.

TRM 7, Excel 0

Caleb Winton had nine strikeouts and allowed only four hits in the win. Miller got on the board early with an RBI triple by Drew Williamson and sac fly by Jo Jo Booker. With the score 3-0 in the fifth, Tiger leadoff hitter Jordan Williams led the inning off with a solo shot to left field off the gymnasium. Miller scored three more runs later in the inning to secure the win and sweep of Excel.

TRM 16, St. Luke 2

The Tigers scored 10 runs through two innings. The support was all Tiger starter Russell Smith needed on the mound as he kept St. Luke’s bats off balance the whole game. Smith accumulated nine strikeouts in a complete game. The Tigers had 12 hits in the game. One of the biggest blows came off the bat of Hunter Brittain, who connected for a grand slam to left field in the fourth inning. Jason Konsler had a triple, single and 2 RBIs. Stokes Jennings had three hits and 2 RBIs. Jo Jo Booker was 2-for-2 with an RBI. Russell Smith had two hits, including a double and 3 RBIs. Jordan Williams was 2-for-3. O’Neil White had an RBI.

TRM 6, Wetumpka 2

Down 1-0 in the second inning, Drew Williamson connected for an RBI triple to left center. A bad throw to third base sailed to the dugout allowing Williamson to advance home and give the Tigers a 2-0 lead which it never relinquished. Jason Konsler, Russell Smith and Jo Jo Booker each had RBIs.

Stokes Jennings pitched the complete seven innings in the win for TRM. Jennings allowed two runs, on 11 hits and no walks. He had two strikeouts.

In JV action the Tigers split at Enterprise on Saturday. Miller won 1-0 over Providence Christian on a walkoff hit by Wyn Brittain to score Micah Flores. Blake Jernigan picked up the win on the mound. Miller lost its second game to Enterprise 12-0. The JV team is 6-4 for the season.

Miller will play Fri., March 31 at Mobile Christian with JV beginning at 4 p.m., followed by the varsity.
