Nelson advances to championships
Brewton native Karisa Nelson of Samford University was one of a trio of track and field student-athletes to advance to the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships after recording qualifying marks at the NCAA East Regional.
A school record 12 Bulldogs competed in the NCAA Regional.
Nelson will make her second career appearance in the championships having placed third overall in the 1,500 meter run with a time of 4:11.86. The time is an improvement from a year ago, in which she timed at 4:15.12.
Nelson has had a career year so far. In March, the junior captured first place at the 2017 NCAA Indoor National Championships in the women’s mile with a time of 4:31.24.
The 2017 Track and Field Championships will be held June 7 through June 10 in Eugene, Ore.
Nelson will compete in the 1,500 meter women’s semifinal Thurs., June 8 at 2:46 p.m. central time. Time subject to change.
The 1,500 meter women’s final will be Sat., June 10, at 1:41 p.m. central time. Time subject to change.
Joyner named to 3rd All-South Region team
