Woman charged with escape, assault on East Brewton police chief

An East Brewton woman is behind bars, charged with assault on a law enforcement officer after allegedly injuring East Brewton Police Chief Kenny Brazile during a traffic stop.

Stephanie Hymel is also facing an attempting to elude and escape charge following the Tuesday evening incident.

Brazile was injured are unknown; however, the pursuit ended after Hymel crashed her car near Hainje’s Furniture.

Dispatch reports stated Brazile was drug behind the car. He was taken to D.W. McMillan Hospital for treatment.

East Brewton Mayor Terry Clark said Wednesday Brazile suffered minor injuries, but is at home resting.

Hymel is currently being held in the Escambia County Detention Center on an unknown bond.
