Two convicted sex offenders are back behind bars, this time for failing to comply with the state’s sex offender notification act.
Michael McCreary, 31, of Brewton, is being held without bond in the Escambia County Detention Center after he not only allegedly failed to report to the sheriff’s office but also was charged with two counts of violation of probation.
Frederick A. “Hollywood Fred” Barkley, 55, is charged with violation of probation, failure to report to law enforcement and failure to hold proper identification.
Barkley, an Atmore resident, is also being held without bond in the detention center.
Alabama law requires sex offenders to report on a quarterly basis, as well as to possess an identification card designating them as a convicted sex offender.
Barkley has a long criminal history including an attempted murder charge involving an elderly Eastern Shore socialite; theft; drug possession and child enticement. He later pleaded to a lesser charge in the attempted murder case.
