Hello everyone, my name is Travis Tessandori and I am the new sports editor here at The Brewton Standard.
Corey Williams took me around Brewton to meet different people the week before he left, and I could tell by those people’s reactions to him leaving that I have some big shoes to fill. I promise you my best effort in doing that.
I have a deep passion for sports and writing, so what’s better than a sports writer for a local newspaper in a town that is die-hard about their schools? Probably not the McDonald’s fry cook job I had in high school, or the pawn shop job in college. This is where my path has taken me, and I couldn’t be more excited.
Originally from Tehachapi, Calif., I moved to Alabama to play baseball at the University of Mobile.
Tehachapi and Brewton are similar towns in that they’re both small communities, with the same importance on sports and small-town happenings, but to us they’re all big. (Also, for many of the people that don’t know this, California does have country music, and I do listen to it.)
I don’t take life very seriously; I’m light-hearted, and I tend to go with the flow. With that, I will take this job very seriously.
This year will be my first Battle of Murder Creek game, and I know that I will not be disappointed. I heard of the rivalry when I lived in California, so the importance does not go unnoticed.
To close out, I would like to give a thank you to Stephanie for the opporutnity, and the Shell family for everything they have done in getting me here. It’s nice to have a family 3,000 plus miles away from mine.
I look forward to meeting you all, and I hope you enjoy my work.
