T.R. Miller vs. Tallassee: Looking ahead

It is a matchup of Tigers Friday night at Brewton Municipal Stadium, as T.R. Miller hosts Tallassee in a non-region matchup.

T.R. Miller (3-1) looks to get back on track this week against Tallassee High School, a class 4A opponent who is currently 4-1.

TRM and Tallassee are both coming off of their first losses last week, where TRM fell to Mobile Christian, 35-21, and Tallassee fell to Munford, 19-6.

Just like last year, TRM is facing Tallassee the week after a loss to Mobile Christian.

The two teams have faced off six times in their existence, seeing TRM take all six matchups. Last year, TRM got a big performance out of Michael Campbell to help in a 34-27 win that came down to the wire. The Tigers defense got a stop on fourth down at its own 4-yard line to put the game away with a minute remaining.

Campbell rushed for 147 yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries.

Over the course of the last three years, TRM has only defeated Tallassee by an average of a touchdown margin.

They have also faced off in the playoffs three times; 1984, 1996 and 1998.

Tallassee defeated W.S. Neal, 28-13, earlier in the season.

TRM dropped two spots in last week’s class 3A rankings, now sitting 8th in the rankings.

Head coach Andrew Thomas didn’t feel that last week’s loss came as a result of the team’s game plan, as much as it was the execution of that gameplan.

“It wasn’t what we were doing, it was how,” Thomas said. “We will get better with experience. We have a young group of players on the field. We just need to finish drives and make our plays. It is there.”

Forecast: Tallassee’s defense has been strong this year, not having allowed 20 points in a game yet. The two-headed monster of McMillan and Campbell has seemed to be too much for opponents, and I think that this will remain the story here. Expect a hungry TRM team, coming off of a tough loss to Mobile Christian.
