TRM girls dominated its two opening games last week

The T.R. Miller Lady Tigers basketball team won both of its games in the Choctwawhatchee Thanksgiving Tournament last week to kick off its season on the right note.

In the season opener, TRM got a scoring explosion from Janazsia Nettles, who poured in 24 points in route to a 68-42 win for the Tigers.

Kyla Bell-Barton recorded a double-double in the game, scored 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in the effort. Steely Ruzic had a double-double of her own, with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Valarie Samuel and Raivon Ewing each had seven points in the contest, with Samuel chipping in seven rebounds and five steals on the defensive end.

Tuesday, the defense clamped down against West Florida, only allowing 27 points as a team in a 48-27 win.

Ruzic supplied the offense, nearly outscoring West Florida by herself with 25 points. She also had seven rebounds and three steals.

Ewing was one point away from a notching a double-double, finishing with nine points and 10 rebounds.

Nettles finished the game with nine points of her own.

The boys and girls were in action yesterday against Florala and will take on Georgiana tomorrow on the road. The next home game is next Tuesday against Andalusia at 4:30.
