Children of all ages will find something to celebrate in Brewton this year as Nutcracker Holidays are filling the calendar with family fun events beginning Friday.

Starting today and every Wednesday, it will be Pre-school Primetime at Dogwood Hills’ Nutcracker Holiday Show from 1-3 p.m. with snow and playtime in the Elf Village. Santa will be there to greet the little ones, too, said Brewton’s Director of Program Management Connie Baggett.

“We are thrilled to offer this fun holiday time for our citizens,” Baggett said. “Friday activities start at 3 p.m. with Santa there for photos and snow until 5 p.m. Saturday fun starts at 6 p.m. every weekend with a train ride, snow and Santa through 8 p.m.

“On Sundays, holiday musical presentations by Schwayn Bradley, friends and family will cheer your holidays from 3-5 p.m. with snow decorating the scene,” she said. “Even more exciting is the addition of a train to all the special days outlined above beginning Dec. 9.”

Baggett said this time of year is packed with all kinds of fun in town, including the animated tree at City Park operating nightly from 5-10 p.m. and wonderful light shows in Market Park, Mildred Street Park and Jennings Park.

The Chamber of Commerce will present its annual Christmas Parade on Dec. 8 downtown at 6 p.m., with a nighttime market for shoppers and a stirring choral presentation afterward.

On Saturday, the city will welcome Willie Sugarcapps, Grayson Capps, Will Kimbrough and Sugarcane Jane for the Cold Moon Festival this year at The Hourglass with technical direction by DMS Sound.

Baggett said luminaries will warm your heart again this year downtown on Dec. 9 and 10.

“Brewton will cap its holidays again with The Blueberry Drop on Dec. 31 downtown featuring Bobby Moore and the Rhythm Aces produced by DMS Sound. Music gets underway at 7 p.m. with fun and celebration of a great year with a new fireworks show at midnight,” she said.

All the events are presented free of charge.
