The True Meaning of Christmas

Published 11:01 am Wednesday, December 20, 2017

As we prepare for the upcoming Christmas holidays, take a moment to consider what Christmas is about.  Christmas season typically begins with Black Friday, when stores cater to eager shoppers who are willing to participate in that early morning competition for great specials.  But Christmas is not just about Black Friday.

The Christmas holidays are filled with a steady slate of college bowl games that have already begun and will continue until well after the New Year dawns.  But Christmas is not just about college football either.

Christmas is often a very festive time.  The Choral and Band departments in our school system have each put on wonderful concerts featuring beautiful Christmas music.  Our students have represented TR Miller so well, and their performances have validated the fact that it is a great time to be a TR Miller Tiger.  But Christmas is not just about carols.

Social events are scheduled throughout the holiday season, when people invite guests into their well-decorated homes.  Finger foods, punch, and decorative sweaters are staples for these gatherings.  People filled with the holiday spirit wish each other good tidings and cheer.  But Christmas is not just about social gatherings.

Christmas is not just about watching Rudolph or Frosty.  It’s not about movies like Home Alone, A Christmas Story, or It’s a Wonderful’ Life.  It’s not just about presents under the tree or Santa.

All of these things contribute to making Christmas a joyful and fun time of the year.  But never forget what is most important – that Christmas is about a special baby that was born over two thousand years ago!

Merry Christmas!
