WS Neal Softball will open its season Feb.22, with a new head coach.

I am excited for the season even though I am new coming straight out of college,” said Emily Vickrey.

Vickrey was a graduate assistant at the University of Mobile in 2016, where she coached for five years along with playing some travel ball. “ I played at the University of Mobile, where we won our conference and won sixth in nationals,” said Vickrey.

“The girls here at W.S. Neal are eager to learn and are coachable,” said Vickrey.” “They are improving and getting better as we approach opening season.”

“We have a total of 28 girls on the team which includes JV/Varsity,” Vickrey said. Vickrey said, “for motivation she gives out punishments when the girls don’t apply to what they are told to do.”

“I mostly want to see them play with passion and if we do that we will be successful this season,” said Vickrey.

The Lady Eagles will open the season Feb. 22 at home against Alma Bryant High School with the JV team playing at 4 p.m. and the varsity team playing at 5 p.m.
