Escambia County Children’s Policy Council held its fourth annual leadership symposium at the John L. Fisher Center in Brewton, where the theme was “Obstacles and challenges affecting our youth.”

The speaker Brent Cosby from Andalusia, and counselor of the Laurel Oaks Behavioral Health Center gave a presentation to the kids of Escambia County. He spoke to children from the following schools: Escambia County, Flomaton, WS Neal and TR Miller high schools.

The Leadership symposium was to discuss distribute resources and recommend ideas that affect positive change in youth within the communities.

Cosby is a peer helper who helps young kids who may have mental health issues. He helps kids by giving them ideas as a collected group on what to do in the community. Such as anti bullying campaigns, substance abuse, suicide and texting and driving.

Cosby said, “I believe this is a good start to get the kids going in the right direction.”
