It’s always a great moment to see young men better themselves and play sports at the highest level. WSN Jacobey Hawthorne is one of those young men and he will take his game to the next level as he has signed to play baseball with Bevill State CC.

Hawthorne has been a great all-around player in the 2017-2018 school year at W.S. Neal High School. Playing basketball, football and baseball. “My motivation was to play every game as it was my last and I wanted to be a role model to the little kids,” he said.

Hawthorne has been a great asset to WSN baseball team where he averaged a batting average of .386 and pitching average winning 6-1 on the mound .857. He also averaged two homeruns this season.

Hawthorne said, “Head coach Coy Campbell is a great coach and he helped me all five years playing for him.”

He also excels in the classroom maintaining a 3.1 GPA. “Big thanks to my parents Alex Hawthorne and Demeda Howard. My dad is always pushing me to the max and my mom always took off work to take me to different places to play baseball,” he said.

Working hard pays off with going to the next level. Hawthorne said, “It feels good, it’s a new experience, I will meet new people and I’m looking forward going on my own and continuing to play ball.”
