Murder Creek softball is almost near as the fall season games will kick off the week of Sept. 3. Registrations will be Aug. 6 and 9 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the East Brewton Civic Center.

The age groups will be for 8U, 10U, 12U and 15U and only the first 48 players in each age group will be guaranteed a spot. Registration fees are $35.

“Murder Creek softball was started to allow our area’s girls to have another sport to play during the fall season,” coach Greg Dawkins said.

The goal is to have 192 girls divided up into 16 teams and four age groups,” he said. They also will try to have a one night per week softball and limit practice times so it will not interfere with other extracurricular activities. “Our vision is to show up for the games and have fun.”

Dawkins has enrolled some partners from the communities to help. “The one thing that joins our communities together is Murder Creek. Josh Reeves has been instrumental in the planning process with me. It’s where we meet, have connections and it’s a cool name for a softball series,” Dawkins said.

The information on the game nights and times will be coming soon.

They will also play games at the YMCA this year as well.

“This is the only time that softball brings our girls together from different communities and they develop relationships that carry forward. These girls grow up and eventually land on their respective High School teams. We have already seen how our all-star teams were pulling for each other this past season and to think it all started at Murder Creek,” Dawkins said.
