Young women from the Brewton area met Monday evening at the East Brewton Civic Center to begin registration for the Murder Creek Softball League.
As registration began, the room quickly filled with girls of all ages.
The league will feature 8U, 10U, 12U, and 15U age divisions with multiple teams in each of the age divisions.
“This is the first year we have included a 15U division to the league and Monday’s turnout for signups was outstanding, especially for the 15U division,” league organizer, Greg Dawkins said.
“We have slots still open in all divisions but we especially need more 8U and 10U players.”
The 2017 season was the first for the league and resulted in overwhelming success.
The league was organized to help gain more playing experience for young women and help bring girls from different communities together as one.
“The league was created to help bring unity to the community and to offer extra playing time to young women,” said Josh Reeves, who helps with the league.
Dawkins added, “during the all-star game last year it was awesome to see all of our young women from different communities come together, set everything aside, and play not only as a team, but also a group of friends.”
Since it’s start last season, the league has grown and is continuing to do so.
The last day for registration is Aug. 9, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., at the East Brewton Civic Center. Cost is $35 per player.
