Jail shakedown nets phones, knives, pills, tattoo gun
The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office and the Brewton Police Department on Saturday conducted a shakedown of the Escambia County Detention Center.
Sheriff Heath Jackson said that during the search officers located numerous items of contraband and homemade weapons and drugs.
Officers spent some three hours searching the facility.
Specifically, Jackson said that 13 cell phones, six phone charges, four handmade knives, a quantity of pills, three bags of tobacco, one bag of spice, four lighters, six books with hidden compartments and one tattoo gun was found.
Jackson said that numerous inmates in the ECDC will face additional charges due to the shakedown, and the case is being investigated.
This is the first major shakedown since Jackson took office last month. During his campaign, Jackson said he planned to crack down on issues, including contraband at the detention center.
