Love is in the air, Brewton

Or maybe it’s just the pollen. Either way, Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, but for Herrington’s The Florist, Valentine’s Day has arrived.

“It’s one of our busiest holidays and the busiest day for us,” Ronny Herrington, owner, said.

On other holidays like Christmas, Herrington has some leeway since it’s more like a season, but Valentine’s Day is a different story because the holiday is only a single day.

“On Valentines Day, they come in the day before or the day of and sometimes a few stragglers come in the day after because they forgot, and that’s what we call makeup flowers,” Herrington said with a smile.

Herrington said Valentine’s Day is really rose day because a dozen roses are their best seller at this time of the year. Although, chocolate covered strawberries have become a close second ever since they started selling it last year.

He said his favorite thing about Valentine’s Day is seeing the people. His valentine, his wife Pat Herrington, finished his thought for him: “It’s the men who come here all excited, and then those young guys, you can tell they’ve been saving up their money. It’s sweet.”
