Black history is America’s history
When one thinks of Black History Month, they often associate Rev. Dr. MLK Jr, Rosa Parks, Madame CJ Walker, GW Carver, BT Washington, Harriet Tubman, Sojourner Truth, and President Barack Obama.
Yes, indeed these people had a great impact on Black History, but we forget to recognize the leaders right here in our own community, who have also been trailblazers, such as the Rev. HK Matthews, who was right there with Dr. King as they marched from Selma to Montgomery.
As a child, I never knew that I was surrounded by many great leaders that paved the path I can follow day in and day out.
I pray that as we move forward, let us not just remember only during 28 days, but 365 days. Black history is America’s history.
May be reminded by the words of Dr. King, when he said “Hate cannot drive out Hate, only Love can do that.” In times like these let us love our fellow man, because you never know when you might need them.
May God continually bless each and every one of you.
