The Escambia County Board of Education had a meeting on Thursday morning. During the meeting the Superintendent John Knott announced that teachers will be coming back to work on Aug. 5 and students will return to school on Aug 8. The board also reviewed the monthly financial statement for June 2019. All bank statements have been reconciled through June 30, 2019. The board voted to approve adding a weighted GPA to the school system.
The board announced a total of 11 resignations to replace empty positions: four special education teachers, four bus drivers, one instructional teacher aide, one kindergarten teacher and one custodian. The board stated that they hired 21 new employees: seven lunchroom workers, six bus drivers, two math teachers, one special education teacher, one band director, one custodian, one elementary teacher, one physical education teacher and one office aide. There were two transfers: a lunchroom worker and a kindergarten teacher. There were two employment changes: a lunchroom worker and a career tech teacher. The boards next meeting will be on Aug. 15 at 4:30 in the Escambia County Board of Education Brewton office.
