The Brewton City Council met on Nov. 12 at 4:30 p.m.
During the meeting, the mayor read a proclamation recognizing Drexell & Honeybees for its philanthropic contribution to the city over the years.
“The city celebrates those that give of their time, talent, and resources to improve the quality of life for city residents,” said Mayor Yank Lovelace.
The owners Freddie and Lisa McMillan were presented with the proclamation and a key to the city.
In new business, funding for the John L. Fisher Community Center events was approved. A total of $5,900 was approved by the council to aide in the funding of the many programs that occur at the center.
“The Fisher Center has numerous programs for the community at the facility there and the board administers that and they have asked for some contribution from the city to sponsor those programs. They deal with broad groups within the community,” said City Clerk Alex McDowell.
Other actions taken during the meeting included the approval of two movements in the Provalus project.
First, the council approved authorization for the mayor to sign the United Bank commitment letter for the Provalus funding. Finally, the council approved the construction management service agreement with Stewart/Perry of Birmingham to construct the Provalus project.
The next city council meeting will be held Monday, Nov. 25, at 4:30 p.m. The public is encouraged to attend.
