James “Sput” Perry Freeman, 62, of Brewton, Ala., passed away Fri. Dec. 27, 2019, at his residence after a brief illness. He was a native of Brewton. A former resident of Decatur, Ala., before moving back to Brewton. Mr. Freeman was of the Baptist Faith, attended W.S. Neal School System before becoming a graduate of West Morgan High School in Decatur and was employed as a safety supervisor at T.R. Miller Mill Company. James was a former correction officer at Fountain and Holman Prison, and a former administrator at the Escambia County Jail and had a total of 33 years of service in law enforcement. He enjoyed family time and deer hunting.
He is preceded in death by his Father, Rober Lee Ball, Jr; a grandson, William Marion.
He is survived by his mother Pauline Brown Ashburn of East Brewton; his wife, Jean Peters Freeman of Brewton; for daughters, Jaime Steele of Brewton, Jessica (Chris) Marion of Brewton, Aidyn Brewer of Brewton, Catherine Brewer of Brewton; a son, Rocky Brewer of Brewton; three brothers, Bobby (Debra) Freeman of Brewton; Kenneth Lee (Marydol) Freeman of Brewton, Robert Darryl (Dawn) Ball of Brewton; two sisters, Paula Gene (David) Webber of Enterprise, Ala. and Teresa Brewton of Brewton; seven grandchildren, Savannah Blackmon, Brianna Ivey, Jayda Steele, Kirra Marion, Zachary Marion, Koltyn Marion, Eleanor Marion; one great grandson, Holden Blackmon. A time of visitation was held Mon., Dec. 30, 2019, from 1PM. until 2PM at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Brewton.
Funeral services were scheduled for Mon., Dec. 30, 2019, at 2PM at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Reo Pugh officiating.
Interment followed in Elim Cemetery, Roberts Community Brewton, Ala. with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Brewton directing.
