After more than two years in an effort to spur state action on resurfacing U.S. 31, Mayor Yank Lovelace received word this week that the project will not likely begin before late summer.
“It is very frustrating to see another delay on making repairs to one of the worst sections of state road in the region,” Lovelace said Friday. “I would like to thank Alabama Sen. Greg Albritton and Rep. Alan Baker for their help to try and pressure the Alabama Department of Transportation to action.”
City and state officials have met with transportation managers multiple times asking for the project to move forward, but have seen delay after delay with no real explanation. An inquiry this week from Lovelace was answered by Brian S. Aaron, Assistant Region Engineer with the Alabama Department of Transportation.
