THOMASVILLE – No. 3 Thomasville eliminated T.R. Miller, 69-22, from the Area 1, 3A tournament Tuesday, Feb. 4.

Thomasville put the game away early, taking a 20-4 lead after the first quarter.

The win marked the third this season for Thomasville over TRM.

“They beat us pretty good, said T.R. Miller head coach Dustin Kennedy. “They played at another level. Anytime you get into a one-and-done game you have to bring a different level of intensity. We just were not able to match that.”

Thomasville kept up the defensive pressure in the second quarter and capitalized on TRM turnovers to take a 32-10 lead at the half.

Thomasville dominated coming out in the second half scoring 24 points in the third period while its defense continued to smother TRM.

At the end of the third quarter, Thomasville held a 56-14 advantage.

Kevon Samuel led TRM in scoring with 8 points.

Kennedy, who served as an assistant basketball coach at Helena, completed his first year at TRM. He will lose seven seniors from this year’s club, but feels he has the nucleus returning for a good ball club in 2021.

“My hope was that we would be able to change the culture,” he said. “We haven’t been great for awhile now. I just want to get with these kids and teach them how we have practiced in order to compete during ballgames. I think at one point in the season we were there. It’s easy to be a good team when you’re winning. It’s hard to compete at the level you need to in practice when you’re not getting the results in the game but, we grew as a team and there are some young guys that are able to contribute, to compete, and I hope to flip the culture and to change things.”
