T.R. Miller claims region crown

T.R. Miller’s stifling defense helped turn back Hale County, 58-25, in the Class 3A Southwest Regional championship game Thursday, Feb. 20, and earned a berth in the girls Final Four in Birmingham.

Hale County, a newcomer to the regional championship game was no match for powerful T.R. Miller. The Lady Tigers their 13th regional championship in 26 years. TRM (27-1) advanced to play Lauderdale County in the 3A state semi-finals .

Hale County pulled within 19-16 late in the second quarter, but the rest of the game was a nightmare for the Lady Wildcats. From that point, Hale County went 2-of-23 shooting with 12 turnovers.

T.R. Miller’s Alijah Fountain scored a game-high 21 points on 7-of-12 shooting, while Ja’Nazsia Nettles added 10 points for the Lady Tigers.

Katlyn Lawson led Hale County with 8 points.
