Initial Unemployment Claims for Week Ending 4/25/2020

The Alabama Department of Labor released the official count for initial claims filed during the week of April 19 – April 25, 2020.

74,966 initial claims were filed either online or by telephone during this time period. 62,448 of those claims are COVID-19 related.

The majority of claims filed were from employees in the Industry Not Available (unclassified) section (37,616), followed by Manufacturing (6,932), Accommodation and Food Services (6,279), Administrative and Support and Waste Management and Remediation Services (5,067), Retail Trade (4,980), and Health Care and Social Assistance (4,349).

Jefferson County had largest number of claims with 11,878. For Escambia County, 393 claims were filed during the time period. The statewide breakdown is printed below, showcasing the increase in number since mid-March.
