Brewton’s Turner Smith is tied for 23rd after the first round of the 75th annual Boys State Junior Championship at Goose Pond Colony Resort in Scottsboro.
Smith began his round with a par on the 10th hole, but answered with two straight birdies.
He then parred the 13th and 14th holes before making eagle on the Par 5 15th. He made par the rest of the way on the front nine to finish with 32 strokes.
On the back nine, he made double bogey on No. 3, bogey on No. 4 and made par the rest of the way to finish his round at 71.
The first round was suspended at 2:31 p.m. for lightning.
Second round action begins today
