The Brewton Tigersharks held their final swim meet of the season on Aug. 8 at the Brewton Area YMCA.

Swim Coach Angel Boyd said in an email that the summer was unlike any in years past due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but it didn’t keep the swimmers out of the pool.

“From the pre-team kick board races to our high school swimmers blowing up the 50 free (style), our swimmers had some awesome races,” Boyd said.

Boyd said the swimmers have been working out, and swimming hard all summer in preparation for the high school season.

“They committed to the BLAST Tigersharks and worked hard,” she said. “This Black and Red inner-squad meet (on Aug. 8) was a great way to get our new swimmers prepared for big competition and give our veteran swimmers the opportunity to show off their strokes and set some personal best times. Since our normal summer league meets were canceled due to COVID-19, we decided to showcase our athletes for their friends and family. Of course, all spectators were required to wear a mask and practice social distancing.”

Boyd said the fall session began on Aug. 10, with practice running from 3:45 p.m. until 5 p.m. and registrations are still being held.
